Melissa began her yoga practice a decade ago, drawn by the peace and healing it brought to her life. As her interest and practice deepened, she knew she had to share this transformative practice with others. For Melissa yoga has been an alternative medicine capable of healing mind, body and soul. Her practice has slowly unraveled old patterns and opened up new ways of being and thinking - and she feels grateful to witness these same effects in her students.

Drawing inspiration from both the precise alignment of Iyengar and the flow of Ashtanga Yoga, Melissa guides students through a vinyasa practice promoting balance and stability with clear alignment cues while connecting the flow of movement with the breath. For Melissa, yoga has always been foremost about mindfulness, where asana is a tool for mind-body integration. Infusing relevant yoga philosophy provides context in classes with periods of meditation to quiet the thoughts, ease the mind and connect with the body. Melissa gives students guidance and focus which persists off the mat, ultimately connecting yoga practice to their daily lives.

Melissa is a graduate of the 200 hour Yoga Works Teacher Training Program and the 300 hour Ishta Advanced Teacher Training, and is also certified in Trauma-Informed, Restorative and Chair Yoga. Melissa also focuses on bringing yoga to under-served and at risk populations; she feels particularly grateful for the opportunity to bring the healing practice of yoga to prisoners and veterans. Off the mat Melissa is a social worker, Reiki Master, an animal lover and an avid traveler.
